These unusual 925 sterling silver rectangular drop earrings each contain two carefully hand-shaped best quality Whitby jet cabochons as well as a single amber cabochon. They’re substantial pieces of silver with a pleasingly fluid cut-out and hang about 35mm (1½ inches) below the 925 silver earwire. The rectangles are 12mm (½ inch) across and are stamped 925 on the reverse. This pair of earrings weighs 10.26 grams, a very wearable 5.13g per individual drop.

These earrings have been crafted by guest designer “Glittermoth Factory” who lives and works in Whitby. She can often be found looking for pieces of sea-washed jet on the beaches in and around the town. Whitby Jet and amber are a perfect combo, both being organic fossils and not actually “stone”. Jet comes from decomposed trees which lived during the Jurassic period, some 180 million years ago. Amber, a fossilised tree resin, is a youngster at 30 to 90 million years old.

Jet is said to protect and offer balance, grounding and support. It is also thought to be good for finance, business and all kinds of personal abundance. Amber is a powerful healer and cleanser of the mind, body and spirit. It draws disease from the body and absorbs pain and negative energy thus enabling the body to rebalance and heal itself. The earrings come in a gift bag that includes the descriptive enclosure (photographed) which tells the new owner of this one-off jewellery all about its qualities. A complementary polishing cloth is also included.
