I am fortunate enough to have been able to acquire a mixed-use property which is my home, as well as a creative new outlet, in Ventnor, on the Isle of Wight. With its local mantra, “Keep Ventnor Weird,” I am loving both living and working in this fabulous location, searching for seaglass on an almost daily basis. Born in Stornoway, I’m an island girl at heart. The shop is now open at 46 High Street, Ventnor, PO38 1LT. On the site of the former bar and eaterie “Perks”, it is still a work in progress but do please come and say hi if you’re on the island.

This includes jewellery, artwork, crocheted critters, and other items made by local designer-makers as well as some who are further afield. In the meantime, you can shop HERE.

Artemis and The Mermaid was set up in Whitby in May 2016 by myself and a friend known as The Whitby Mermaid. We were both passionate about creating and the shop started off as a way for the two of us to sell our makes… from jewellery to shell covered frames, little packets of seaglass to beads. We expanded into selling handmade goods from other, mostly local, creatives until we had work from around 25 people crammed into our tiny shop. It became a veritable cornucopia of jewellery, crafting items and charms, tarot and oracle cards, incense and essential oils, lots of mermaid and unicorn related gifts, crocheted items and handmade sculpts.

Sadly, due to circumstances outwith our control, this shop closed its doors in May 2021, after five years of very happy trading. I am really looking forward to opening the shop again after a two year gap on the high street. My goal for the new Artemis and The Mermaid is to create an artisan collective, following a similar set-up to the Whitby shop. But with less plastic.
